(VIDEO) why does a pro-life position matter in a city council race?
Though abortion-related issues are rarely decided at the local level, it’s important that we prioritize this issue in choosing our representatives at all levels of government. Little did I know when I was elected four years ago that abortion would, in fact, become a big issue in my first term.
In fall 2018, we learned Planned Parenthood had bought a building on Farmington Road. Since nothing they were doing required zoning or site plan approval, City Council and the Administration were powerless to stop them. Nevertheless, concerned citizens packed our meetings for several weeks to discuss the issue. Some spoke in favor of Planned Parenthood, but most spoke against it.
Though unable to stop the project legislatively, I wanted to seize the opportunity to publicly present the case for the pro-life position. My argument is simple:
It is wrong to intentionally kill an innocent human being.
An unborn baby is an innocent human being.
Therefore, abortion is wrong.
This is the crux of the issue, and persuading our fellow citizens to see this truth is the only sustainable path to winning full legal protection for the unborn.
